Week in Review Oct. 14-17, 2025
Sports and Clubs
Sports - It was a busy week with sports this week. Our junior girls and boys enjoyed their soccer tournaments this week. The girls made it to the quarterfinals and the boys to the semifinals. We also had plenty of students from grades 3-6 enjoying their cross-country event. For more information please see Extracurriculars .
A reminder from last week, If your child is trying out for Bordenball, please complete the Form 976 - Inter-School Sport Consent
Bus Safety
The safety of our students during bus transportation is a shared priority. At school, we work closely with our staff and bus drivers to ensure safe and orderly pick-up and drop-off procedures.
We kindly ask for your continued support in promoting safety at bus stops in the community. Please ensure that students and families stand a safe distance back from the curb while waiting for the bus. When groups gather too close to the roadway, it can make it more difficult for bus drivers to approach and stop safely.
Remind your child to wait until the bus has come to a complete stop and the doors have opened before approaching.
Thank you for helping us keep all students safe — both on and off school property.
Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
IEPs went home electronically on Oct 14th. Please check your spam folder if you did not see it in your inbox. The email was generated from PCG Education. If you have any questions regarding your child’s IEP, please reach out to their teacher.
Remembrance Day
We are looking for Virtual Guest speakers for our Remembrance Day Ceremony. As we have many families who serve or are serving in our Canadian Armed Forces, we are hoping to have a variety of guest speakers, each submitting a video that will be shown during the ceremony. Our theme this year is, "What does a poppy mean to me?" If you are interested, please email pamela.shea@ocdsb.ca by Friday October 24th.
As well, we invite any members/families who have served or who are currently serving to join us for our Remembrance Day ceremony on Tuesday November 11th, at 9AM.
Subway order deadline this Sunday!
Subway Orders Due Soon!
A friendly reminder that all Subway lunch orders are due by Sunday, October 19th. Unfortunately, late orders cannot be accepted, so please be sure to get yours in on time. Orders can be placed through School Cash Online. Thank you for your cooperation!
School Council
We had our monthly School Council meeting this past week and there were some great discussions around fun activities planned for this year. The first community activity planned this year is the Monster Bash. Please click on the image below for the exciting details.
Respect
For the month of October, we are learning about the character trait of RESPECT, respecting ourselves, respecting others, respecting our school, and respecting our community. Here are some ideas to help support your child to grow in the area of respect:
1. Discuss together what respect LOOKS LIKE, SOUNDS LIKE, and FEELS like. Here is a great song about boundaries to help your discussion.
2. Brainstorm with your child how they could respond respectfully even when disagreeing with someone.
3. Craft: Trace each family member’s handprint and write “High Fives for Respect” and as a family, come up with 5 ways that you can respect each other and yourselves.
Reminders
EARLY PICK-UP
Thank you to families who let teachers know when their child will be leaving early—it really helps with organization and making transitions smoother. If possible, please also copy the office at maryhoneywelles@ocdsb.ca when you send your email so everyone is in the loop. We appreciate your support!
SCENTED PRODUCTS
We want to remind everyone that our school is a scent-sensitive environment. Despite previous messages, we are still noticing strong scents from some visitors. Because several of our students and staff have severe allergies, we kindly ask that you avoid wearing scented products when coming to the school. Your cooperation helps keep everyone safe and healthy.
DROP-OFF SAFETY
- The driveway in front of the school is a designated bus lane and cannot be accessed and used for student drop-off.
- The daycare parking lot is off-limits for drop-off and parking.
- Please consider using OSTA walking route maps to support safe walking to school.
- Parents are encouraged to park a few blocks away to reduce congestion.
- Remind your child about traffic safety if walking or biking.
BUS TRANSPORTATION
The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority (OSTA) regularly lists route changes and cancellations on their website. Families are encouraged to:
- Check the list regularly.
- Have a backup transportation plan if needed.
- Sign up for the OSTA Parent Portal to receive updates, including bus cancellations, and confirm your child’s bus status.
MEDICAL INFORMATION
If your child attended our school last year, you should have received a notification to complete medical forms if required. If you are new or did not receive the email, please use the forms linked below:
Please drop off all medications at the office.
Celebrations involving food
We know that many parents like to celebrate birthdays and other occasions with special treats. Due to many allergies in our school, we encourage parents to celebrate with non food items such as stickers, pencils, themed erasers, or other trinkets, rather than food. Any food sent in to share with students should be pre-packaged and contain an ingredient label. Please check with your child’s teacher before sending items in for distribution.
