Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
IEPs are going home electronically on Oct 14th. Please check your spam folder if you don’t see it in your inbox. The email will be generated from PCG Education. If you have any questions regarding your child’s IEP, please reach out to their teacher.
Remembrance Day
We are looking for Virtual Guest speakers for our Remembrance Day Ceremony. As we have many families who serve or are serving in our Canadian Armed Forces, we are hoping to have a variety of guest speakers, each submitting a video that will be shown during the ceremony. Our theme this year is, "What does a poppy mean to me?" If you are interested, please email pamela.shea@ocdsb.ca by Friday, October 10th.
As well, we invite any members/families who have served or who are currently serving to join us for our Remembrance Day ceremony on Tuesday, November 11th, at 9AM.
Pizza Day returns this week!
Everyone’s favourite lunch is back — pizza returns this Wednesday!
Grade 1
Math in Motion!
Our students had a great time learning about ordinal numbers and measurement through a fun hands-on activity — Whose toy car can go the farthest? There was lots of excitement, friendly competition, and great learning in action!
What’s happening in Kindergarten?
Leaf Man Art & STEM Challenge
Our Kindergarten students had a wonderful time exploring fall through art and STEM! After reading the classic story Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert, they created their own active “leaf people,” using real leaves and plenty of imagination. Then, they took on a STEM challenge — Can you build a tree? Using a variety of materials, students worked together to design and construct their own trees, showing amazing creativity and teamwork!
Picture Day is coming!
Picture Day will take place this week on October 16 and 17. Each class will visit the photographer on one of those days — your child’s teacher will let you know which day applies to their class. Get those smiles ready!
Reminders
EARLY PICK-UP
Thank you to families who let teachers know when their child will be leaving early—it really helps with organization and making transitions smoother. If possible, please also copy the office at maryhoneywelles@ocdsb.ca when you send your email so everyone is in the loop. We appreciate your support!
SCENTED PRODUCTS
We want to remind everyone that our school is a scent-sensitive environment. Despite previous messages, we are still noticing strong scents from some visitors. Because several of our students and staff have severe allergies, we kindly ask that you avoid wearing scented products when coming to the school. Your cooperation helps keep everyone safe and healthy.
DROP-OFF SAFETY
- The driveway in front of the school is a designated bus lane and cannot be accessed and used for student drop-off.
- The daycare parking lot is off-limits for drop-off and parking.
- Please consider using OSTA walking route maps to support safe walking to school.
- Parents are encouraged to park a few blocks away to reduce congestion.
- Remind your child about traffic safety if walking or biking.
BUS TRANSPORTATION
The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority (OSTA) regularly lists route changes and cancellations on their website. Families are encouraged to:
- Check the list regularly.
- Have a backup transportation plan if needed.
- Sign up for the OSTA Parent Portal to receive updates, including bus cancellations, and confirm your child’s bus status.
MEDICAL INFORMATION
If your child attended our school last year, you should have received a notification to complete medical forms if required. If you are new or did not receive the email, please use the forms linked below:
Please drop off all medications at the office.
Celebrations involving food
We know that many parents like to celebrate birthdays and other occasions with special treats. Due to many allergies in our school, we encourage parents to celebrate with non food items such as stickers, pencils, themed erasers, or other trinkets, rather than food. Any food sent in to share with students should be pre-packaged and contain an ingredient label. Please check with your child’s teacher before sending items in for distribution.
