Week in Review Sept 29- Oct 3, 2025
It was another successful week at Mary Honeywell!
REMEMBRANCE DAY
We are looking for Virtual Guest speakers for our Remembrance Day Ceremony. As we have many families who serve or are serving in our Canadian Armed Forces, we are hoping to have a variety of guest speakers, each submitting a video that will be shown during the ceremony. Our theme this year is, "What does a poppy mean to me?" If you are interested, please email pamela.shea@ocdsb.ca by Friday October 10th.
As well, we invite any members/families who have served or who are currently serving to join us for our Remembrance Day ceremony on Tuesday November 11th, at 9AM.
Fall Artwork
Fall is in the air at Mary Honeywell, and our students have been busy exploring the season through their artwork. Their pieces showcase creativity, imagination, and a true celebration of autumn. We are proud of their efforts and hope you enjoy these wonderful creations as much as we do.
Lunches
Pizza Days
The ever popular Pizza days are starting soon! Orders are available now through Cash Online and must be placed by October 9. Please note that we cannot accept late orders. See the poster below for more details.
Subway Lunches
Subway lunches are coming to Mary Honeywell! Orders open today through Cash Online, with the first lunch kicking off on October 27. The program will run weekly for 8 weeks— another delicious lunch for students to look forward to!
Respect
For the month of October, we are learning about the character trait of RESPECT, respecting ourselves, respecting others, respecting our school, and respecting our community. Here are some ideas to help support your child to grow in the area of respect:
1. Discuss together what respect LOOKS LIKE, SOUNDS LIKE, and FEELS like. Here is a great song about boundaries to help your discussion.
2. Brainstorm with your child how they could respond respectfully even when disagreeing with someone.
3. Craft: Trace each family member’s handprint and write “High Fives for Respect” and as a family, come up with 5 ways that you can respect each other and yourselves.
REMINDERS
SCHOOL COUNCIL
The next Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 14, and all are welcome to attend.
EARLY PICK-UP
Thank you to families who let teachers know when their child will be leaving early—it really helps with organization and making transitions smoother. If possible, please also copy the office at maryhoneywelles@ocdsb.ca when you send your email so everyone is in the loop. We appreciate your support!
SCENTED PRODUCTS
We want to remind everyone that our school is a scent-sensitive environment. Despite previous messages, we are still noticing strong scents from some visitors. Because several of our students and staff have severe allergies, we kindly ask that you avoid wearing scented products when coming to the school. Your cooperation helps keep everyone safe and healthy.
DROP-OFF SAFETY
- The driveway in front of the school is a designated bus lane and cannot be accessed and used for student drop-off.
- The daycare parking lot is off-limits for drop-off and parking.
- Please consider using OSTA walking route maps to support safe walking to school.
- Parents are encouraged to park a few blocks away to reduce congestion.
- Remind your child about traffic safety if walking or biking.
BUS TRANSPORTATION
The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority (OSTA) regularly lists route changes and cancellations on their website. Families are encouraged to:
- Check the list regularly.
- Have a backup transportation plan if needed.
- Sign up for the OSTA Parent Portal to receive updates, including bus cancellations, and confirm your child’s bus status.
MEDICAL INFORMATION
If your child attended our school last year, you should have received a notification to complete medical forms if required. If you are new or did not receive the email, please use the forms linked below:
Please drop off all medications at the office.
Celebrations involving food
We know that many parents like to celebrate birthdays and other occasions with special treats. Due to many allergies in our school, we encourage parents to celebrate with non food items such as stickers, pencils, themed erasers, or other trinkets, rather than food. Any food sent in to share with students should be pre-packaged and contain an ingredient label. Please check with your child’s teacher before sending items in for distribution.
