Week In Review

Sept 2 - Sept 5, 2025

Welcome Back!

We are so excited to welcome all of our students and families back for a brand-new school year at Mary Honeywell Elementary. The first week of school is always filled with energy and anticipation, and it has been wonderful to see students settling into routines, reconnecting with friends, and beginning their learning journeys.

As we move into the weeks ahead, we’ll continue to share important updates and highlights with you in our Week in Review. This is where you’ll find reminders, celebrations, School Council events and other helpful information to keep our school community connected.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership—we are looking forward to another fantastic year together!

NEW MORNING ROUTINE – RECESS BEFORE ENTRY
Like many other OCDSB schools, we will now begin our school day with outdoor recess. School still begins at 8:30 a.m., but students will start their day outside.

To support a safe and focused start:

All adults who are not school staff are kindly asked to leave the yard promptly at 8:30 a.m.

Meet the Teacher Night – Thursday, September 11

We are excited to welcome families to our Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, September 11 from 4:00–6:00 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and caregivers to meet their child’s teacher, see the classroom, and get a sense of the learning environment for the year ahead.

Please note that this is a general introduction only. It is not a time for individual interviews or in-depth conversations about student progress.

To make the evening even more enjoyable, Toppers Pizza will be available for purchase. A limited selection of pizza slices can be ordered through  School Cash Online, and pizza will be served starting at 5:00 PM.

Our School Council members will also be attending the evening—be sure to stop by and connect with them to learn more about how you can get involved in supporting our school community.

We look forward to seeing you there and starting the year together as a school community!

First School Assembly of the Year

This week we held our first school assembly, and it was a great way to bring everyone together to kick off the year! Students had the chance to meet and welcome our new staff members, review our school expectations, and learn about our first monthly character trait: Responsibility.

To add some fun, we also played a lively round of Teacher Trivia, where students tested their knowledge of fun facts about our staff. There was lots of laughter and school spirit, setting a positive tone for the weeks ahead!

PARKING LOT AND DROP-OFF
Our parking lot and yard have been under construction this summer. To ensure a safe and smooth start each day:

  • If your child lines up at the back of the school yard, please proceed to the end of the parking lot (near the back yard) for drop-off instead of using Kiss and Ride.

  • For those using Kiss and Ride Areas:

    • Children should be ready to exit the vehicle promptly on the passenger side of the car.
    • Parents must remain in their cars.
    • More details to come regarding drop-off and pick-up procedures.

  • Kindergarten families: Please park and walk your child to their designated yard.

Celebrations involving food: We know that many parents like to celebrate birthdays and other occasions with special treats. Due to many allergies in our school, we encourage parents to celebrate with non food items such as stickers, pencils, themed  erasers,  or  other  trinkets,  rather  than  food.  Any  food  sent  into  share  with students should be pre-packaged and contain an ingredient label. Please check with your child’s teacher before sending items in for distribution.

Our first School Council meeting will be on September 16 at 6:30PM in person at Mary Honeywell. If you are interested in being involved with our School Council, please feel free to join us.
